Agriculture, industry and commerce in Ghana
Agriculture plays a big part in the development of Ghana. The country produces a variety of agricultural crops such as cocoa, yams, grains, palm oil, kola nuts, timber, cotton, rubber, sugar cane, tobacco, and kenaf. Among all these crops, cocoa is the country’s principal agricultural export. Ghana is known as the second largest producer of cocoa in the world. The agricultural sector also aids to increase the employment rate of the country. Aside from agriculture, Ghana is also known for its rich production and exportation of industrial mineral resources. Ghana is the 7th largest producer of gold in the world and the 2nd largest in Africa. Ghana is also known as the 9th largest producer of diamonds in the world. Other mineral resources of Ghana include silver, timber, bauxite, and manganese. The country also produces and exports hydrocarbons such as petroleum and natural gas.
